Head Coach - SOVC 18

Thanks for allowing me to introduce myself. I’m the Founder, CEO, and Head Coach of Set One Volleyball Club. I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama.  l started my volleyball career in the 12th grade and subsequently formed a coed volleyball team, Taskmasters, playing in various coed leagues throughout the city of Birmingham and the state of Alabama. I have also played on the UAB Men’s Club Team for five years from 1983 to 1988. During that time, I joined the Army in 1985. While serving our country, I served as captain of the men’s volleyball team at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for two years. In the early 90s, I played on USVBA Men’s Team traveling all over the country for tournament play. I continued playing on the men’s team for ten years. I received numerous awards as a player during this time. I was voted as one of the top middle-blockers in the southeast by teammates and other team coaches and played on six All-Tournament teams. In one of the tournaments, I was chosen as the tournament MVP.

As a head coach for Alabama Juniors Club Team, I have worked with student-athletes on individual volleyball skill training under the SRVA regional Commissioner Ken Cain.

I also served as a high school volleyball official in the Birmingham area through the Alabama High School Athletic Association for five years.

In 2005, I served as head coach of two women’s volleyball teams with one becoming league champions for four consecutive years. As “Coach of the Year” for two years, I was honored to have coached some of the most outstanding ex-collegiate volleyball players from Michigan University, Northern Illinois University, Alabama State University, Alabama A&M University, Samford University, Shelton State Community College, University of West Alabama, Mississippi Valley State, Morris Brown College, and Stillman College, just to name a few.

In 2008, I set forth a mission to become a volleyball club owner and established Set One Volleyball Club. I began training young student-athletes to compete in several SRVA volleyball tournaments in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida in preparation for college level volleyball. In 2010, I became the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Alabama State University. Currently, I served as Interim Head Volleyball Coach at Alabama State University (2010-2011). I’m proud to say I’ve coached several young ladies who’s went on to obtain volleyball scholarships at prestigious universities. This year will commemorate 15 years of my commitment to volleyball and making a positive impact in the community
